Traditional Dutch cheese warehouse. On a picturesque canal in Edam, behind a row of historical facades, lie the 18th century cheese warehouses. These attractively restored cheese warehouses have bellgables and are also in Louis XIV style.
Although no cheese is made on farms in Edam any more, a lot of the factory-made cheese is brought back to Edam for storage in the excellent conditions of the old cheese warehouses. Nowadays there's an cheese tasting. Since 1916 until today cheeses are maturing in the traditional warehouse "De Koophandel" on the Voorhaven in Edam. We intentionally keep the location on the Voorhaven: this still is the main cheese port of Edam.
Now you can taste all the Dutch cheeses of the assortment of Gestam BV. So, if you are not yet a true cheese lover- you will become one. The cheese tasting shop offers many kinds of Dutch cheese for tasting, insight in to cheese world and friendly atmosphere.
